May Favorites

Sons of Anarchy
Late to the party, I know but this way I can watch the whole thing on Netflix without waiting for the next season!

MAC's Wash & Dry Collection
I will do a post on the products that I grabbed from this collection, all face stuff.  I'm kind of regretting not snagging one of the eyeshadows but to be honest I already have way more than I could ever use and do not need more.

Covergirl Ready, Set Gorgeous Foundation
Another product I have a post on!  It is just a good (drug store) foundation, easy to blend and it looks great! Normally I would use my nicer foundations for the night times (because I go through a lot of foundation tbh) but this has been doing double duty recently and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Bronzer
I use this for a contour and all over bronze.  This product is very pigmented and though pressed, it is quite powdery so be careful.  I love the way it looks, aka bronzed not orange or muddy, and it does blend just incase you apply a tad too much!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Talk about lashes like woah. I have to finish up another mascara but I really really liked this one and have been reaching for it.

Bath and Body Works Self Tanner
I have an entire post about this stuff already, I love it.  I used it the other night because I knew I was going to go to the beach.

Tone It Up Beach Babe 3 DVD
Workouts I can do without leaving my house and I feel amazing (and very sore/tired) after.

John Frieda Radiant Red Color Protecting Conditioner
I use this and the macadamia nut conditioning mask in the shower and I do believe it is helping the red in my hair not fade so much.  This conditioner is hydrating but I do not worry when I use it up by my roots; once I wash it out, there isn't a residue left behind.

Rompers
Recently I've been really loving rompers, jersey material to be specific. I have been lounging around a lot recently and I look a bit more pulled together in a romper versus sweatpants.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish in Birthday Suit
I have been obsessed with this color.  I am very much an all black girl, my nails are currently painted black as well fun fact, but this is one of the better nude polishes I have tried.  It looks very clean and pretty; I refer to it as a wedding polish to give you an idea of it.  I highly suggest trying it out!

Do I have more favorites? Yes. Do I want this to be a mile long post? No. Are those favorites exclusive to the month of May? Nope. I have plenty of more favorites posts to squeeze in more products/loves.  I will even do a holy grail all time favorites sort of thing! Let me know in the comments below a couple of your favorite things from the month of May & any suggestions for up coming posts!

Small Victories

I finally got my a** out of bed and out of the house this morning.  Now I've been out of the house since I've gotten home but for the past week I go to bed saying I am going to get up in the morning and walk outside and I haven't.  Today I did and it was great.  I love going on a walk to clear my head.  I also walk to Starbucks which is one of my favorite places and a nice little treat on a hot day.  I had planned to run a bit this morning - I am trying to get into running for Lord knows why - but by the time I convinced myself to start jogging I was a hop, skip, and a jump away from Starbucks.  I did it but I want to start my jog a little sooner and work my way up to jogging the entire way (daunting, I know).

Keeping on the productivity train, I got home and ran on the elliptical (after finishing my grande nonfat iced hazelnut latte of course!) for half an hour while watching Fast & Furious 6.  I hadn't seen it yet and really wanted to see the new one, I love the whole series - fast cars & hot guys, yes please.  I did a little bit more of a workout during the movie because I was actually so motivated I had trouble sitting still.  Workout wise, I had a pretty great day today.

I ALSO sent out another application today and was able to easily write a cover letter stating positive qualities about myself and why I qualify for the job which never happens for me. Pat on the back for that one.

It is really nice that I had such a great day after a pretty negative night and hopefully I can ride this positivity for a while (this post is being posted a day later than it was written).  If you can't tell by this post, I'm in a pretty good mood and feeling more myself - another victory.  To finish off the day, I watched the Devil Wears Prada, a movie I love so I had a very productive and relaxing day.

Small victories add up and I believe that they are extremely important.  Anything that goes right, take it.  Be confident, be happy, and count your small victories.

I have a haul post coming up soon & leave suggestions for other posts in the comments below!

Cleaning Up My Life

I am in a bit of a slump currently with everything.  Now that my room is somewhat cleaned up, I'm working on cleaning up my life and pulling my sh*t together.  These are some of the steps I am taking to break out of my funk.

1. I went through and unsubscribed to a ton of emails. It was very liberating and I highly suggest it. I no longer wake up to 15 emails in the morning and I am LOVING it.

2. I want to get into a really good skin care routine.  I used to be wicked good about taking care of my skin (before I was in college) and I would like to get back to that.  I really haven't been doing anything to my skin since I've gotten home (not even wearing makeup) and I'm starting to break out al little bit so it is time to remedy that.

3. On the topic of skin: I am trying out the Gold Bond KP treatment cream since my arms get really red and patchy. Nothing has really helped so I figured why not give this cream a shot! Especially since it is bare arms season.

4. I need to do my nails.  I really sit around doing nothing all day once I workout so it would be very easy to do my nails.  Nails and makeup are two things I really enjoy and I'm currently not paying attention to either :(

5.  Get dressed for the day.  When I wake up I put on my workout clothes and that is what I end up lounging in for the rest of the day.  Some days I don't even get out of my pjs; it is becoming ridiculous.

6.  Eat when I'm hungry, not when I'm bored, and put some more focus into what I am putting in my mouth.  Something I haven't addressed is that I have some stomach problems and a lot of foods make me feel really sick - some weeks are very bad and other weeks are perfectly fine.  Recently I've been pretty fine so I've been eating more than I usually do but I am waking up with the worst stomach cramps and feeling sluggish/sh*tty throughout the day.  Also, drink more water - forever a goal.

7. Walk.  Sitting around is not doing anything for me.  I am going to start going on walks to get up and get active especially on days that I am not working out. I love being outside and it has been pretty nice recently.  After the absurd winter we had, I should really take advantage of these lovely days.

8.  Make my bed. So so simple but something haven't done since being at home.  I only sleep with a comforter so it is actually painfully simple to make my bed yet in the morning I toss my comforter over to the side and it stays that way until I crawl back into bed.

9. Go to bed earlier.  Plain and simple.

10. Set an alarm & make a plan.  I want to get up at a good hour IN THE MORNING and make a plan for the day.  At school I plan out my life so at home I clearly need to plan out my life too or else little gets done.

How do you clean up your life?  Do you get a ridiculous amount of emails as well (or just me)? Let me know in the comments below and I hope everyone has an amazing day!

Diary: Sleepless Nights

I did not have the best of days today.  We are all human, we have good days and bad days; today happened to be a bad day for me.  I am now laying up tossing and turning trying to fall asleep.  Sleep does not seem to be in my near future.  This is my blog, this is real and I'm sorry if this is not the kind of post that you want to see; feel free to skip it.

Some days are rougher on my self esteem.  Today was one of those days.  Nothing in particular happened I'm just feeling sad/bummed out.  I went shopping which is normally fun and nothing horrible happened.  I haven't changed sizes, I was hoping I had gone down but at least I'm not going up.  I did buy a shirt from the plus sized section of forever21 but that isn't really anything different than I've ever done before.  I met up with friends and had a great talk but now laying down it is apparently reflection time and my brain does not want to rest.  I have had issue with my body image before and I'm working on being more positive and believing people when they compliment me.  I am also working on breaking down my walls.  I don't trust people easily.  Sometimes it scares me to be myself and be outgoing.  I have built up walls so high over the past years that I am not sure how to even begin breaking them down.  There was no traumatic event just over time I have become more and more introvert.  I think that is what bums me out the most; I feel like I'm losing a piece of myself.  It is difficult caring about everyone while everyone is convinced you do not give a f*ck about anything.  I put on that act but the secret is, I give a lot of f*cks.  I care about people, I want people to be happy, and when I ask about your day I really do care.  I feel like I have been overshadowed and I have always been fine with it; I am good at being invisible and I don't feel the need to be in the spotlight.  There are people that need to be in the spotlight, there is nothing wrong with that, so I let them have it.  Growing up, we see that wicked conceded person on a tv show and are in a way taught not to like them when in reality we should take a page rom their book.  Be confident in yourself is the lesson we should learn from them.  I am not saying to be a conceded a**hole but they can list off (all) of their great qualities (some not so great haha but it comes with the territory).  I am not one of those people, I struggle when I'm asked what my strengths are and typically need to ask someone close to me for assistance.  I really want to change that.  I know there are great things about myself and I want to believe the positive things that others say about me.  I know I have the positive qualities they list, sometimes I just have a difficult time pulling them up.  I also have trouble admitting to myself when things are bothering me.  I push them down and let them build and sometimes I don't even realize something has been bothering me until I hit a breaking point.  Clearly I've gotten very good at ignoring problems.  I'm also stressed about not having a job for the summer yet.  I know summer has just begun but my friends all are at least doing something and I'm sitting over here doing nothing and feeling like I am going nowhere.  I don't have much going on in my life so I feel like I have very little to contribute to the conversation when we all get together.  I am the token single friend and jobless - two topics that get covered extensively.  Some days are just hard and today was one of those days.

Taking the time to put my thoughts down when I can't sleep helps me a lot.  I also texted a friend (who lives in a different time zone so it isn't a ridiculous hour) just to chat which is also helping.  In this post I am admitting a lot of things that I've had trouble admitting to myself before this moment.

I know that this post is long and wordy and honestly I'm not even sure if I am going to post it.  If I post it I'm not even positive that I am going to keep it up.  I just needed to get these words and thoughts down so they stopped running through my head - yes I am one of those people.

To anyone still reading, thank you for listening (technically reading) my rant and I hope you are able to sleep well & have a wonderful day still!

Slow and Steady: Unpacking

Slow and steady is the way I make progress, hence progress update posts will be titled slow and steady! (Yup, it's a series cause Lord knows I have a lot of progress to make always.)  Are y'all sick of hearing me blabber on, aka complain, about unpacking yet?  I am getting sick of it myself so I don't blame you..

Guess what!? I've actually made a ton of progress!  I had a wicked productive day.  I sat down in my mess with a goal and I am getting there.  I am now almost done unpacking and I actually want to do a run through again to see if there are any other clothes to get rid of.  I know they are there, maybe the second time around I will be able to part with them.  So far I have filled two trash bags (39 and 36 gallon sized) of give away clothes and cleaned out enough other stuff (including clothes not in good condition or good hygiene-wise to give away) to fill a trash bag to go out on the curb on trash day.

I realized a lot of the bulky unpacking I had left to do today was shoes.  Shoes are apparently an obsession with mine and I probably have a few too many.  I quickly realized my set up was not going to work out and all of those shoes were not going to fit into my closet.  I ran out and purchased two shoe racks; best decision of the day.

Rack # 1
First I picked out this shoe rack.  I did some research online before I went to the store and this one had some pretty great reviews.  Its $39.99 from Bed Bath and Beyond & you can click the link in the description of the photo!  It is a tad pricy but I believe it is totally worth it, plus I had a 20% off coupon which BB&B send out a lot so make sure to use them!  I have even been told that if you have already purchased the item and then find another coupon you can bring the receipt back and have the new coupon taken off one of the other items (I hope that explanation makes sense)!

Mine is silver but here's the bronze one!
The second rack I bought because it was expandable and I need to maximize my storage/organization big time.  This rack is $19.99 (link above) and fit perfectly in the space I had left in my closet next to the first rack.  I really wish I could've fit a third or fourth rack into my closet because I feel much more organized placing my shoes on these two racks and I could really maximize my space.

My room at the moment is still a bit messy but looks one million times better than it did!  You can now see the floor and I feel like I have made a ton of progress.  When I look at the mess that is left it does not give me anxiety from being too much; it looks manageable and that if I take another day (probably only half the time I put in today) it will be clean and done!

Feel free to share your closet organization tips below! Hopefully this is my last unpacking post for a while (like until next year, fingers crossed!) and let me know any other posts you would like to see!

Summer Slumps

When I'm at school, I generally have a pretty good routine going.  The second I come home, that routine gets shot to sh*t.  It takes a moment to get my motivation back up and running but it is possible.
Current spirit animal ^

Quick run down:

No, I do not have a job yet.. Not for lack of trying, I promise I have but a job for moi still has not happened.
- Goal: get on a good sleep-wake schedule so that if I can land a job it's not a huge adjustment for me.
It is also good to have a good sleep-wake schedule in general so you can be more productive with your day but when you can't really be more productive at doing nothing so.....

I have  gotten back into the workout grind.  While I haven't gotten back to the gym I am consistently working out in my basement so points for that.
- Goal: get back into the gym and maybe set up some personal training sessions.  At the very least, sign up for some hot yoga classes and call it a life. Working out may turn into my motivation to get up early.

I have to try to stop eating everything in sight because I'm bored and have nothing else to do.
- Goal: I have gotten to the grocery store and picked up some of my favorite things to eat that are at least a bit healthy (okay pretty healthy like fruit etc) so that if I'm munching it isn't 100% of the time on crappy food.

Maybe you've noticed, I've been pretty good about posting!
- Goal: make a list of posts for the future and have a bunch lined up set to post just incase.

Unpack <-- yep, still haven't finished. Also yes, it is from lack of trying.  If I really buckled down and went for it, I would be done.  As you can probably tell, motivation is not always my strong suit.

Since I've been home: I've read a couple of books, caught up on some of my tv shows, finished season 2 of Sons of Anarchy (<3), went shopping and that's pretty much it.  Summer should be slow moving and relaxing but it still needs to be something.  I need a path/hobby/job.  I am all about relaxing but I am not one of those people who can sit in a house and do nothing for 3 months, I am already going stir crazy and it's been about 2 weeks.

How do all of you break out of a slump? Suggestions are welcome, trust me.  Also comment below if there are any kinds of posts that you do want to see in the future!

Tan I Am (NOT)

I have mentioned it before and I will mention it again, I am very fair skinned. I do not tan ever, my skin may get a touch darker but the only tan lines I get are burn lines and they are unintentional.  I do love a nice bronzy glow though so I have tried quite my share of self-tanners.  I have experienced the good, the bad, the orange, the no difference, and the ugly.  On a whim, I was literally checking out at Bath and Body Works and a small display with their self-tanner caught my eye.  Naturally, I was inclined to try it.

This purchase was one of the times my whims actually worked out.. I am currently loving this lotion. It has a subtle effect, I actually wasn't sure if it worked originally and then saw that I had missed a patch by my ankle and yes, it worked.  The result is very natural aka it brought me back to the land of the living. You can build it up by applying it multiple nights in a row and you don't turn orange.  My friends were shocked when I showed them my missed spot and couldn't believe a tanning lotion was able to look so natural.

When it comes out of the tube there is some glitter.  The glitter does remain on your skin but it isn't like sparkle-city disco-ball, you have to look for the glitter to notice it.  You apply it and the color builds over time, theres a small tint instantly but over a few hours the color intensifies.  I like to apply the lotion when I get out of the shower at night before I go to sleep so I am all set for the morning.  I use a mitt to apply it but if you use your hands (which you totally can) just make sure to wash your hands well after; especially between your fingers and the base of your palms cause you'll see color there too.  This tanner is also one of the better smelling self-tanners that I have used.  I actually kind of enjoy the smell to be honest but as a warning, the smell is quite strong.

I can do more tanning posts focusing on the different products I use, like the other lotions I like and the ones that give you immediate color etc. Let me know in the comments below if you guys want to see that or if you've tried this tanner!

Unpacking is Going Really Well..

Unpacking is a process.

I absolutely hate unpacking.  I don't mind packing and I'll do loads of laundry but I swear unpacking will be the end of me.  Moving into my dorm is a different story; I'm wicked efficient unpacking and excited to get my new room all set home.  When I come home at the end of the year I am not sure how I ended up with so much stuff.. but I did.  To unpack means to purge what is already here.  Certain things - like desk supplies etc. do not get unpacked because they don't need to be used until I ship back off to school in the fall.  Clothes on the other hand are their entire own battle.
I like to think that I'm getting a lot better at giving stuff away, returning clothes, and really only buying things I will actually wear.  Then I come home and can justify keeping clothes that I haven't worn in years because "I got this that one time with this person" or "I always go through phases and I know that the second I get rid of this I'm going to need it" aka total bullsh*t justifications.  Some things do have a sentimental reason to be kept but that one white j.crew t-shirt that hasn't been worn in a couple of summers is not one of those things.

I saw this on Pinterest so clearly a lot of people have this problem..
There is one drawer of stuff that I tend to keep even if I don't wear it much - my light colors drawer.  I am very much a #allblackeverything person when it comes to my wardrobe but I like to keep a couple of white, light gray, and a couple colored things on hand just incase because I do end up wearing them during the summer.  That is a phase that I will go through - it can get wicked hot wearing all black in a midsummer heatwave.

Back to the purge.  I am actually a lot better at getting rid of things than I have been in the past.  I have to go through all of the stuff I have at home BEFORE I unpack from school 1. to make room for the stuff I'm bringing back and 2. so that it doesn't get lost in the hustle and bustle.  The clothes I left here are often season dictated, I switch out a lot of the clothes I have at school over my breaks according to the weather.  After searching through all of my clothing here, I have filled a large trash bag for give away.  Some clothes that no longer fit are going in a bin in the attic just incase I gain some weight and need them again but for the most part I cleared out a lot.  It was also quite an impressive feat considering my room currently looks like an obstacle course and it required a bit of gymnastics to get around.

The next step is to actually unpack - which I have begun but am not even close to finishing.  I already know there are some clothes still packed that are going to be donated.  They sat in my dorm room waiting to be worn, I looked for an excuse to wear them and it never came.  If I don't wear it, it's got to go.  At school, I justify owning a lot of t-shirts because I don't want to have to do laundry; I literally put doing laundry off as long as possible mostly because I don't want to have to put the clothes away (I know, I'm awful).  At home where I don't have to pay $3 per load of laundry it is not as big of an issue, I still do not like putting it away but at least it doesn't require an elevator ride and a shifty transfer from washer to dryer over some very dirty floors.

I could go on and on about my unpacking process - I am four bags down (only one of which was a duffle) and have dealt with all of my hanging stuff but I still have many more bags to unpack.  This post is clearly me procrastinating which I am quite good at and actually have a blog post about...

Cover Up - Drugstore

Foundations are something that I try out a lot of.  I use foundation almost every single day; even when I'm wearing almost no makeup I'll throw on a little foundation just to even out the skin on my face.  I want one that covers everything I want to be covered but does not make me look like a cake-face.

I use some higher end foundations but I love finding drug store foundations that work well! They're a fraction of the cost and since it is my most used product, I don't feel as guilty going through tube after tube.  I do believe in price per wear (clothes, accessories, and makeup) - if you're going to wear it all of the time then you can justify the price however I like the option to not spend $50 on foundation.

Don't get me wrong, I do love a good high end foundation as much as the next girl and there are some days when you need to reach for the NARS over the Covergirl but for everyday wear I am down to use some drugstore.

At the moment, these two foundations are my go-to.

  3. I am officially moved home for the summer!!!!

  5. I actually also read a book while studying as study breaks (and finished it in about a day as well) - Red Queen, I highly recommend it.
  6. I fell of the workout band wagon once finals began and am slowly working on getting back into it.
  7. I have been eating horribly since I got home but I am also getting better about that.

OOTD and New Hair!

First I went ombré then I went red ombré and I could not be more happy with the finished product.  I originally wanted my ombré to be red but it ended up very golden and blond on the ends which was beautiful just not exactly what I had wanted.  The ombré itself was done amazingly. I went back a few weeks later and went RED.

April Favorites

IT IS MAY!!!! Which means it is time for April favorites.  This is going to be very miscellaneous so I will try to separate it into categories for you!

TV Shows:
- Vikings (I need to watch season 3 still but I got through it very fast)
My taste in TV shows is very weird, it is also very similar to my dad's..  We do watch a lot of these kind of shows together;  I also really like Black Sails but I haven't kept up with it this month.. and it may not be the best one to watch with your father.

- Game of Thrones IS BACK!!!!!!
'nuff said.

- The Vampire Diaries
This season has been a tear jerker for me.  There was definitely some seasons that were a bit of a lull but it has picked back up again.  Also, Nina Dobrev is leaving.. not quite okay with this announcement.

Movies:
- The Longest Ride
I like Nicholas Sparks movies, if you enjoy them then you will like this movie too. It was cute and a nice thing to do on a random Thursday night.

- Love, Rosie
Watch this. I am a big fan of this movie, I am going to read the book next. I hadn't heard anything about this before I decided to watch it; I decided to watch it because I thought the trailer was cute and I am so glad that I did!

- The Age of Adeline
I saw this the day that it came out and I liked it. One of my friends was not a huge fan. There were obviously some corny parts but it was a cute movie.

Books:
- The Cinderella Moment
This was a cute book. It took me a minute to get into and was a bit predictable but I did still enjoy it. It is definitely geared towards a younger audience which I knew going into it but it was a nice and easy read.

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles Book 2)
I read the first book, Cinder, and immediately downloaded this book. This book is a take on Little Red Riding Hood (the first is a twist on Cinderella).  I did enjoy Cinder a bit more but I still really enjoyed this book. I definitely need to download the third book.

Splintered
This book is Alice in Wonderland themed and I love Alice in Wonderland. It is a modern, distorted version of Alice in Wonderland and this time going down the rabbit hole is a completely different experience.. (if you can't tell I enjoy books about fairy tales and new takes on children's books because sometimes it is nice to get away from reality for a bit)

Dead Heat (Alpha and Omega Book 4)
I love this series, I am always waiting for the next book to come out and typically have it preordered. I also read these books in like a day which means a lot of waiting time for me...

Workouts:
HIITy Bitty Bikini - TIU
I do not typically like HIIT workouts but I have been loving this one. It is the most I have sweat in 15 minutes.  It is a quick workout so there isn't really an excuse not to do it because it is possible to carve out a 15 minute chunk during your day.

Pilates
I just recently started going back to pilates classes, taught at my school.  I'm kind of bummed because the semester is coming to a close and I just got back into going to pilates and I really enjoy it so I'm definitely going to have to find a studio by my house this summer.

Yoga
I really like yoga.  I am the kind of person that needs a little zen in my life. Yoga works to clear your mind because you really do focus on your breathing and the moves that you are going through. I am really excited to go home because I will start going to my hot yoga studio again and I LOVE hot yoga. Even in the summer when it is hot as hell outside <- that tells you something.

Makeup:
Cinderella by MAC eyeshadow palette
This is the only palette I have been using since I bought it. I recently sent almost all of my make up home from school, I now only have one small makeup bag here and this palette stayed.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder
I bought this because my MAC Mineralized Skin Finish ran out which is my absolute favorite face powder, I cannot even say how many I've gone through.  That being said, I am really liking this powder. I bought it on a whim at CVS and I like the finish it gives a lot. I use a brush, not the pad that comes in the bottom, but it does a really good job setting my makeup so this is definitely staying in my makeup bag for a while.

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil in Medium/Deep
This actually does smell like chocolate. I finished my Hoola bronzer and wanted to try something new so I bought the Too Faced one and I love it. It's wicked pigmented so a little goes a long way but it blends out really well and gives a very natural, glowing, bronzed look. I honestly do not know how I have not tried this bronzer before now.

True Blue Spa Bronzing Self-Tanning Lotion in Strike Gold
I am a big fan of self tanners. I am extremely pale and burn within 10 seconds of walking outside. Tanners bring my skin color back to the land of the living. This one looks so natural to the point that no one realized I had used it until I pointed out a patch I missed on my ankle. You can buy it at Bath and Body Works and I highly suggest giving it a try! It also smells really good, I don't know how to describe it but it does not smell like typical tanners - I actually enjoy the smell of this one.

Miscellaneous:
Metallic Silver Sneakers
Mine are Vans and I got them from DSW. They take a while to break in, the leather is extra stiff and I'm thinking it has something to do with the metallic coloring. I wanted to get something like my white Supergas but that was different and metallic was definitely the way to go.

Last Day of Classes
It is crazy that I am almost finished with my junior year! The last day of classes was awesome.  Going into finals week is not so awesome but it means that it is MAY which is great. My birthday is in May and I am so excited! I have a final on my birthday and the day after which SUCKS. But I'll be done shortly after that so that just means there will be more to celebrate!

Forever Girl by Jon Langston
Love. That's all.

My new hair!
There is an entire post about it coming up so I'm not going to get into all of the details here but I am actually obsessed with it!

Sorry for such a long post but here were some of my favorite things from April! Let me know if you like or try any of the products or watch/read anything mentioned above! Leave suggestions for more posts below.
